Development cooperation
The Environmental Project Management Agency contributes to international climate finance by implementing mitigation measures in developing countries that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and by transferring Lithuanian best practices and technologies.
The Agency implements bilateral development cooperation projects in the EU Eastern Partnership countries, which have signed Association Agreements with the EU: Moldova, Sakartvelo, Ukraine, Armenia, which has signed the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), and Uzbekistan.
Bilateral development cooperation projects on the deployment of renewable energy technologies are one of the areas where Lithuania is leading by example in mitigating the effects of climate change and promoting the use of low-carbon technologies.
Since 2018, calls for Lithuanian companies to implement climate change mitigation projects in the EU Eastern Partnership countries have been regularly announced. Over the past seven years, this initiative has attracted significant market interest and achieved excellent results in these countries. In total, €12 million in support from the Climate Change Program funds has been allocated for these calls since 2018. A total of 38 projects have been successfully implemented in these countries, with €9 million in support allocated for their implementation. It is estimated that all these projects, which include solar power plants with a total installed capacity of over 11,000 kW, will save approximately 10.7 thousand tons of CO2 annually.
Funding is available for climate mitigation projects that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and install renewable energy sources, such as solar power plants, wind farms for electricity generation, solar panels for hot water, biofuel boilers, and heat pumps. Potential applicants are legal entities registered in the Register of Legal Entities of the Republic of Lithuania. Subsidies are granted specifically for measures to combat climate change.
